Dr. Christopher R. Spence

Dr. Christopher R. Spence is a Board Certified general surgeon, a member of Steelhead Specialty Group and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA on a full scholarship through the Health Profession Scholarship Program earning his doctorate in 1996. As an active duty soldier in the US Army, he completed general surgery internship and residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. Following his time at Madigan Dr. Spence spent four years at Reynolds Community Hospital at Fort Sill, OK. He was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004.

In 2005, upon completion of his military service, Dr. Spence moved to Roseburg where he operates extensively at CHI Mercy Health and the Oregon Surgery Center performing a wide range of surgical and endoscopic procedures. Dr. Spence has a special interest in the treatment of breast cancer and in the minimally invasive treatment of colon cancer.

Dr. Bret R. Hansen

Dr. Bret R. Hansen is a Board Certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma, while receiving a Health Professions Scholarship. He completed his General Surgery training at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. He served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 4 years, including a deployment as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Hansen has been practicing General Surgery in Roseburg since 2002. He performs a wide range of surgical and endoscopic procedures.

Dr. Bryan McVay

Dr. Bryan McVay graduated from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology prior to earning his medical degree at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon in 2004. He then completed Internship and Residency with the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pennsylvania completing his General Surgery training in 2009. Dr. McVay has been practicing a range of General Surgery since that time with a focus on serving rural communities.

Dr. McVay offers General Surgery care such as Gallbladder Surgery, Hernia Repair, Breast Care, Colonoscopy, Access Ports for chemotherapy, Colon Operations as well as other procedures. He also serves Mercy Medical Center and the community as Medical Director of the Trauma Program and as Chief of the Division of Surgery. Additionally, Dr. McVay serves on the Medical Executive Committee.

Dr. McVay enjoys time with his family when he is not in the operating room. He and his family enjoying running and cycling as well as gardening. Dr. McVay tries to make time to go fly fishing and is an award winning home brewer.
